This is seen on things like dictionaries. When you have an English and Japanese (style) dictionary, for example. You'll see it the other way around too, but this particular one is English Japanese.
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. If you know the readings of your kanji you'll know how to read this as well.
