The root origin is the root of something. Possibly even more root than root, but we'll stick with root.
根本 generally refers to the root cause or fundamental basis of something, like "the root of the problem" or "the fundamental principle."
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. If you know the readings of your kanji you'll know how to read this as well. Careful, 本 is ぽん, which is a weird rendaku. In case you need help with this rendaku reading, here's a mnemonic:
