A time limit is a time limit, but not any old time limit. This is usually used at the beginning of compound words, especially 時限爆弾 (time bomb).
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. If you know the readings of your kanji you'll know how to read this as well.
時限爆弾がきちんと引き出しの中にしまわれていることを確認した。
