Housework
Chores
noun
You know 事 means "occurrence," but it also means "matter." So you can think of a house matter as as housework or chores. Housework and chores are really just house matters that you have to deal with, after all.
This is a jukugo word that uses the on'yomi readings of the kanji. You haven't learned this reading of 家 yet, so here's a mnemonic to help you:
Housework done in a car (か) is still housework. Think of all the times you've tidied up your car. That's housework too!
大体の家事はハウスキーパーの方がしてくれます。
The housekeepers take care of most of the housework.
家事のせいで、テレビを見る時間が不足していると思っています。
I think I don't have enough time to watch TV due to the house chores.
元々私は家事に向いてないので、毎日時間がかかってしまいます。
Housework is not my innate forte, so it takes me some time every day.
