Pause
Hiatus
noun, verbal noun
A stop that's just a rest (aka not permanent) isn't a straight up stop. You're planning on continuing again. That's why this is a pause, suspension, or hiatus.
This is a fairly formal word, and it's often used when an activity or a service is temporarily suspended. For example, you could use it to talk about a class being suspended, a machine suspending its operation, or a pop band going on a hiatus. This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. If you know the readings of your kanji you'll know how to read this as well.
