Job
Work, Occupation
noun, verbal noun, の adjective
You know 事 means "occurrence," but it can also mean "thing." So when you're doing things all day, what are you probably doing? A job! All jobs really just amount to doing things.
This word uses the on'yomi reading for 仕 and the kun'yomi reading for 事. Please note that 事 uses the reading こと, which you didn't learn with the kanji, but you have come across it once or twice by now, and because of the way rendaku works, it's changed to the voiced ごと.
新しい仕事を始めてから、まだ三日です。
Since I started a new job, it has only been three days.
今日は六時まで仕事が終わらないから、それまで近くのカフェにいてね。
I won't be able to sign off work until six o'clock today, so stay in a nearby cafe until then.
赤ちゃんの仕事は泣くことです。
The baby's job is to cry.
